Antique Pair of Portraits Framed by Aitken Dott, Edinburgh

Sorry, this item has sold.

This pair of antique portraits was purchased from France but originated in Scotland. They were framed by Aitken Dott of Edinburgh, a firm that began in 1860. Based on the dress of this man and woman, I estimate these portraits as being circa 1860s.

The lower right hand corner of each portrait has what appears to be an embossed "Spalding Chelmsson."

I am unsure of the composition of the portraits but would venture to say I believe they could be original works of art. The backs of the frames cannot be removed without causing more damage so I will leave this up to the new owner's discretion.

CONDITION:

The frames have significant damage. Please examine the photos closely and do let me know if you need more photos. Since I can only use 10, I was limited, but I'll be happy to photograph any other aspects of these portraits that you find you want/need.

The easel backs (that allow the frames to stand upright) are almost completely detached. I've done nothing to the frames, and again, will leave this up to the discretion of the new owner.

Dimensions are 12 ½" x 9 ¾".

Thank you for looking.
