Auguste Savard, Vintage, FIX French Brooch of the Virgin Mary

$75.00

I am dating this vintage, French brooch as being circa 1920s-1930s based on the safety style clasp, similar to a safety pin closure. The brooch consists of a detailed bar with a hanging medal of the Virgin Mary in profile.

The back of the brooch has the maker's mark FIX. Fix was the company started by François Savard in 1823. The company name came from the process of fixe, laminating brass with 14 carat and 18 carat hot gold foil-- a type of gold-plating. François's son Auguste took over the company in 1893.

There is also the AS (Auguste Savard) mark over the word "double" on the back of the safety style clasp as seen in the last photo. The front of the medal has an artist's signature in the lower right.

The length of the brooch is almost 1.25".

**Please note that only the brooch is for sale-- not the material upon which the brooch is displayed in the first photo.

Thank you for looking.
