The FC in the triangle stands for F. Cartaux, a French medalist who lived in Paris, circa late 1800s.

This collectible French jeton is considered a "monnaie jeton de nécessité," meaning it was issued in emergency as a means to supplement the national currency. In the Middle Ages in Europe, jetons were used most often as counting tools.

The jeton as emergency currency was most popular from 1914 to 1927 in France.

This particular jeton is comprised of metal, probably brass, and measures ¾".

Please note surface wear and scratches to the face and reverse of the jeton as well as discoloration to the face and reverse.
