Antique, Santiago de Compostela Pendant

Sorry, this item has sold.

This antique, circa early 20th century pendant is ½" closed and a scallop shell that opens to reveal the phrase Recuerdo de Santiago (Remember Santiago) and a relief of Saint James, Jesus' apostle. The back of the pendant shows the church that is the terminus of the pilgrimage, the tomb of Saint James.

This pilgrimage that begins in France and ends in northern Spain, was popular in the 12th century and is known as the Way of Saint James in English, the Camino de Santiago in Spanish and the Chemin de Saint Jacques in French.

The pendant is of an unknown metal and has discoloration and some wear. Please examine the photos carefully using the zoom function and do let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.

Thank you for looking.
