This French canivet is circa late 1800s, early 1900s and has the inscription: Je meurs ou je m'attache. Loosely translated, this means, "I will cling to you or I will die."
The canivet's decorative edge has a missing piece on the edge in the upper right corner as seen in the second photo. Also, the corners of the picture where the blue flowers are visible have damage in the form of missing areas with the most evident being the lower left and right corners. Please use the zoom function to inspect these areas and do let me know if you would like more photos as I'll be happy to oblige.
