This antique, French medal refers to Our Lady, patron of aviators/pilots and the chapel located in Saint-Palais-sur-Mer. The medal is circa 1909 or earlier as the name of the chapel changed after 1909 to Chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Aviateurs, which opened in 1904.
The medal measures ¾" and depicts artwork by M. Jampolsky, a renowned French sculptor and medalist. I am uncertain of the metal content as there are no hallmarks but the artist's name is in the lower right of the medal. The area through which the bale is attached is marked FRANCE with a maker's mark.
