This antique brooch from Marseille measures approximately 2" from wing tip to wing tip and 1" from tail tip to medal's edge. A swallow holds a medal of Notre Dame de la Garde (Our Lady of the Keep or La Bonne Mère as she is known in France).

The clasp is a C safety-style clasp, and I'm dating this as being circa 1910s. The indeterminate metal is lightweight.
