This collectible French jeton, circa 1921, is considered a "monnaie jeton de nécessité," meaning it was issued in emergency as a means to supplement the national currency. In the Middle Ages in Europe, jetons were used most often as counting tools.

The jeton as emergency currency was most popular from 1914 to 1927 in France.

This particular jeton is comprised of aluminum. Montpellier is a city in the South of France.
