This antique, silk-covered cardboard box from Les Sables d'Olonne, France is from 1911 and commemorates something special for Francoise, perhaps her birth, baptism, or communion, on August 29. These boxes were popular in the early 20th century and were created to hold confections. The label under the lid bears the confectioner and location.
The lithograph on the lid depicts a procession of people in the traditional dress of Brittany (Bretagne) as well as the young girl's name and the date.
Dimensions of the lid are 7.5" x 5.25".
CONDITION: Please note the considerable damage, especially on the sides and edges, as well as the darkening and soiling to the silk. Care must be taken when displaying this piece to prevent further damage and wear.
