This French brooch is approximately 1" x 1", not including the dangling medal, which measures 5/16" across.
Although the brooch has a looped-style C clasp, I do believe it's a more modern brooch owing to its style. The bird is a gold-colored metal with faux pearl insets. The medal is Jesus' Sacred Heart and I believe Our Lady of Carmel on the reverse, although I cannot be certain since the detail is difficult to ascertain, even with a magnifying loupe. Please use the zoom function with the photos to better examine the details of the brooch as well as the medal.
