This is an antique, original engraving by Edouard Travies from the French Dictionnaire Universel d'Histoire Naturelle by French botanist and geologist, Charles D'Orbigny. It is circa mid-1800s and is from a work considered to be one of the finest depictions of natural history of its era.
The engraving shows birds and feathers with the scientific Latin names as well as French text.
Please note the engraving does have overall discoloration; however, the birds and plumage depicted are crisp and clear. There is a mark running top to bottom on the left side, an inch in, that looks as if there was a protective sheet that was removed from the face of the engraving. Also, there is a creased area in the lower right hand corner, which is approximately 1/4". The print is in good condition, especially considering its age of approximately 170 years.
Dimensions are 9 3/8" x 6".
