This vintage cameo brooch is circa 1930s. Although it has the characteristic curve and carving marks on the profile that lead me to believe it is carved from shell, I do not want to definitively say it is shell only because it feels like plastic to me when compared to other cameo brooches. Also, the surface is not as matte as cameos that have been ascertained to be comprised of shell. The metal is unmarked and the clasp is a safety clasp with what looks to be an added soldered bale to wear the piece as a pendant.
Measurements are 1 3/4" (not including the bale) x 1 1/2".
