This Art Nouveau ring by Danish silversmith Jens Petersen is circa early 1900s and is marked "Sterling" and JP for the artist. Jens Petersen crafted his wares from 1912-1937 and was from Løgstør.
The ring is size 7 and has another mark inside the floral portion with JP, but I am unable to make out the rest of the mark. The height of the floral and ball portion is approximately 3/4".
I've heard of these rings referred to as perfume rings, and it is said that a small bit of material was dipped in a scent and pushed up inside the hollow portion of the ball. A gentleman kissing the proffered hand of a lady would receive a waft of her perfume.
The ring is in good condition, but it does have wear, particularly to the ball portion. Do let me know if you'd like more photos as I'll be happy to oblige.
