Onondaga Orphans Home Letter and Photograph, Dated 1930

$13.50

Sorry, this item has sold.

This both curious and heartbreaking letter and photograph were discovered in the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York and are from an estate lot. The letter is dated May 28, 1930 and reads:

Dear Miss [illegible]

We have a call from a splendid home for a baby girl.
I am writing to inquire if you will consider letting Marjorie go at this time.
I recall some conversation we had with reference to this matter and believe that you would decide at some future time.
So not having heard from you recently-- I thought best to write you.
May I again ask you to give this careful consideration and let me hear from you soon, as your account is running behind.

Sincerely,
E.W. McClure

Presumably, the photograph is of the baby Marjorie.

The photograph is loose in the mat/frame, and the lighter colored top portion of the mat/frame is loose. It was once taped to the bottom, but the tape has weakened with age and has loosened, taking some of the paper of the mat/frame with it.

Mat/frame measurements are 7 1/8" x 4 3/4".

Thank you for looking.
