19th Century French Double Inkwell with Gargoyles and Gothic Scrollwork

Sorry, this item has sold.

This metal double inkwell is attributed to the France of the late 1800s and was fashioned in the style of Gothic Revival. Winged gargoyles adorn the inkwells, which have their original porcelain inserts. These inserts are in very good condition with the only flaw being a raised area on the inside of one insert as seen in the fifth photo. I believe this is a manufacturing flaw.

Ornate floral scrollwork and flourishes embellish the pen trays, the feet of the stand, and the lids of the inkwells. The stand measures 9.50" at its widest by 5.50". I believe the piece may be pot metal.
