Teapot Drip Catcher (Tropfenfänger)

Sorry, this item has sold.

This teapot drip catcher is known as a tropfenfänger in Germany. The porcelain bird is in very good condition without any chips or cracks or signs of breakage. I am estimating this is circa 1930s and more than likely of German provenance.

There is a small piece of sponge that must be replaced as this drip catcher did not come with the original (and if it did, it would be a good idea to replace this anyway). The sponge is used to catch the drips, and this is attached to the wire spring so that the sponge rests just under the spout. The wire spring stretches from the spout to the handle, and the bird rests atop the teapot lid to prevent the lid from opening or falling off when pouring the tea.

The bird is approximately 1.75" from the tip of his beak to the tip of his tail.

Thank you for looking.
