This folk art hand carved and painted wooden doll figure appears to be made out of cypress, but I can't be certain. The carving is considerably lightweight, the blue and yellow design on her skirt points to Provence, and cypress trees are abundant there. The cypress is considered to symbolize good luck and hospitality, and they are often planted near homes.
I estimate this doll as being circa 1800s,
I do not believe she ever had arms or legs. The wood has wear with some splits and chipping, and the paint has faded. She is 11" in height and 2" at her widest. Do let me know if you'd like more photos as I'll be happy to oblige.
