This vintage Carter's Midnight Blue typewriter ribbon tin is approximately 2 ½" across. It has wear commensurate with age, including scratches and rust along the bottom edge as well as discoloration of the bottom and inside the tin. The tin is empty.
I'm estimating this tin is circa 1950s when space and space travel become more of a national interest/fascination and was incorporated into product design. Typewriter ribbons were sold in tins until the 1960s.
