This inkwell measures approximately 2.5" across the top. Height is 1". Bottom measures 2" across. There are Chinese characters as well as figural designs etched into the surface of the bone. Please note that three ornamental pieces on the side of the inkwell are missing. You can see this clearly in photos six, seven, and eight.
I am not sure of the age of this piece, only that a similar inkwell was seen at auction and described as "early." I am dating this as vintage because I am uncertain as to how early this actually is.
The lid opens when the wood piece is pulled from the side hole and is secured when the wood piece is slid back into place.
