This small portrait sized bust of a young woman, wearing a caul and with head turned, is of molded concrete. Her faience white slip shoulders have what appears to be a blue foliate pattern transfer print, maybe embellished with hand painting.
Dimensions are approximately 6" in height, and the base is 4" x 2.5". She measures almost 6" shoulder to shoulder. The base is covered with a protective felt that can be removed to reveal a small, around ¼" hole, in the center.
I had this appraised and was told it is possibly Italian and circa 1920s-1930s, but I believe this to be newer as I have seen similar pieces made by Esschert Design with the hole in the base used to place a garden stake for display.
Please note imperfections in concrete as well as crazing of faience.
If you'd like more photographs, please don't hesitate to ask as I'll be happy to oblige.
