Antique Ostrich Feather and Celluloid Fan

Sorry, this item has sold.

This ostrich feather fan is 8.5" from the tip of the celluloid ribs to the tip of the feathers when closed. There are 14 ribs with plumes attached, and the two outer ribs (one on each side, front and back) have a silver-coloured design on them. Metal pins and a metal piece hold the ribs together. The fan spreads as wide as is shown in the first and third photos. There is also a small bow (It could very well be silk.) embellishing an outer feather on one side. There is some discoloration on the ribs as well as the feathers, but overall, this is even so as to not be glaring. Please do let me know if you would like more photos.

I am estimating that this fan dates from the early 1900s. If it were earlier, more than likely tortoise or ivory would have been used for the ribs. After the 1920s, Bakelite replaced many items that were made from celluloid.

Thank you for looking.
