This small picture frame is brass and from the late 1800s. It is Baroque-Rococo Revival in style with its scrollwork and shell motif. From Belgium, it measures 4" x 2 ¼" at its widest. These measurements include the bale that is part of the frame. It also has a wire loop affixed to the brass bale by which to hang the frame, but I would replace this wire loop and use something sturdier.
The opening is approximately 1 ¼" x 1 ½", give or take an eighth or sixteenth of an inch, depending upon how much of the inserted photo/artwork is beyond the opening and not visible.
The reverse of the frame has two screws that affix the sliding brass panel, which facilitates the placement of a photo or small artwork.
There are is no visible maker's mark or patent information, the latter of which is sometimes seen on pieces of this nature.
