This WWI era (1914-1918) Gaulois patriotic pendant from France features "le coq" or the rooster, the symbol of France. The Latin word for an inhabitant of Gaul is "Gallus," and it also means rooster. It is considered not only a patriotic motif but a religious one as well, and one will see many churches with roosters atop their steeples.
This pendant measures 1", not including the bale, and it is considered silvered bronze. There is a mark on the bale but I cannot decipher it, and it may just be from a tool utilized during its manufacture.
*****Condition: The pendant has wear to it, especially on the reverse. Please examine the photos carefully and do let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.
