Notre-Dame du Folgoët Brooch of Black Madonna and Christ Child by Planchot of Fountainebleau

The Madonna and Christ Child appear against an architectural background and flanked by Breton ermines. The ermine represents the Breton motto: Death before dishonor. The brooch measures and is of an unknown metal as it is not hallmarked. Dimensions are 1 ⅝" x 1 ¼".

This Madonna and Christ Child are representations of the actual statue in Notre-Dame du Folgoët, an example of 15th century Breton, Gothic architecture. The statue is also known as a Black Madonna.
