Bécassine, a naïve, sometimes foolish, Breton (Bretagne, in France) housemaid, is considered to be one of the first female protagonists in comic book history. Created by Jacqueline Rivière and Joseph Pinchon in 1905, Bécassine is one of the oldest and longest running comic strips in existence. In 1913, Pinchon still illustrated the books but
Maurice Languereau (Caumery) began writing the text.
This book is based on an original story published in 1930, and this copy dates to 1979. Published by Gautier Languereau, it was printed in Italy. 64 pages. 12.5" x 9".
*****Condition: The book is in good to fair condition with chipping and edge wear to the corners and edges of the front and back covers. The pages are free of marks and foxing. There is minimal creasing of pages and no dog-earing. Please examine all photos carefully and do let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.
