This vintage, enamel lunch pail from France has two compartments-- the larger, primary canister and the small, removable insert. The primary canister is 4" in height and 4.25" across the opening. The smaller insert measures 2.25" in height and 4.25" across the opening.
These metal pails were intended to carry and to possibly cook lunch. The canister and compartment can carry two or more different items.
This vintage pail is probably circa 1950s. Pails like these, known as gamelles, were often used by construction workers and farmers
*****Condition: The lip of the canister has some distortion as seen around the edge. The handle has some rusting. The condition of the enamel is fair to good with some scratching and indents from use. The metal band around the interior of the lid has darkened with age. Please examine all photos carefully and do let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.
