The trombone clasp mounted on a plate dates from the 1930s. I believe the brooch to be a bit earlier, possibly late 1800s, early 1900s. For the purpose of this listing, I am dating it conservatively as being circa 1910s.
The decor motif is distinctively Art Nouveau. I am not certain if this piece was a button or pull knob fashioned into a brooch, but since the reverse is free from signs of a shank or hardware, I am inclined to believe it has always been a brooch. Because of the curved design, the bar had to be used to attach the clasp.
The brooch is comprised of enamel and possibly an ormolu design although I cannot be certain about it being ormolu. The piece should be cleaned gently and perhaps by a professional rather than subjected to harsh, abrasive chemicals.
Dimensions are 1.75" across the reverse and 2.25" from one edge to the other on the front.
*****Condition: When viewed with a loupe or in the photos taken close-up, the enamel has scratches, wear and some soiling. There is also wear to the ormolu ornamentation. The reverse has scratching to the underside of the brooch. The trombone clasp works well. Please examine all photos carefully and do let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.
