This gold-plated religious medal from France depicts Our Lady of Lourdes on one side and the famous grotto of Lourdes where the Virgin appeared to Bernadette Soubirous, who was canonized in 1933 after her death in 1879.
The front of the medal has the mark of the artist Louis Armand Rault and the bale is marked "France" with another difficult to see word and the maker's mark, which looks to be GB or CB with a fleur-de-lys or club in the center. Dimensions are ¾", exclusive of the bale. The date is unknown, but I estimate this to be circa 1940s/1950s. The stamp "France" and the maker's mark in a square shape denote this to be gold-plated. Please note that if it were gold-filled or rolled gold, there would be markings showing this. The gold-plate is very thinly applied.
*****Condition: Please note that the medal has some loss to the plating. Please examine the photos carefully and do let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.
