This unmarked porcelain egg case in the Black Shoulder pattern featuring hand-painted hare and green stripes against a black background was created by Le Tallec of Limoges for Tiffany- Private Stock. Many pieces are marked, but the egg-shaped piece precludes an exterior mark. Although some pieces were marked on the interior, this piece is not.
Black Shoulder was produced between the 1950s through the 1980s so I'm dating this piece conservatively as being circa 1980s. The Le Tallec and Tiffany (Private Stock) collaboration began in 1961. Black Shoulder featured flora and fauna motifs as well as neoclassical patterns.
Dimensions are approximately a 5.75" circumference and approximately 2.5" in height. The interior has a depth of approximately 1.25".
*****Condition: Please note that the brass is tarnished. There appear to be no areas of paint loss. I believe the area on the side of the hare facing toward the viewer that looks to be white may be a suggestion of the hare's whiskers. I cannot be certain, though, especially since this is a hand-painted piece and all pieces even within the same pattern will differ, even if slightly.
