This dizainier or rosary ring is from the Basque Country, southern France and northern Spain. It is marked Oritza and has the phrase, "Eskualdun Fededun" on one side, meaning "faithful Basque." On the reverse, it reads, "Dit Basque Dit Croyant," meaning "Yes, a Basque is a believer."
*****Condition: The ring has no hallmarks but is probably silver-plate over brass. One can see areas of the brass showing through the worn silver-plate on the ring itself and on the beads. Also, the phrases on either side of the ring are worn. Please examine the photos carefully and do let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.
The dizainier, meaning 10, is a Catholic rosary ring with 10 beads to pray the rosary. The beads represent the 10 "Hail Marys," which form a decade of a rosary.
The ring size is 5.25" and comes with the box. Oritza is a jewelry company known for mid-20th century Basque-influenced jewelry. This dizainier could be circa 1950s.
