*****I believe this is one half of an antique belt buckle from France and of the Art Nouveau era (late 1800s-early 1910s). The buckle is brass and has some tarnishing. Please examine the photos carefully and do let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.
The buckle half could be re-purposed into a brooch or a sash or scarf slide.
The buckle half features Cupid and Diana (or Eros/Amor and Artemis), a pair depicted in many works of art over the centuries. In the story, Diana withholds Cupid's bow, thereby disarming him, to make him take a break from his matchmaking. The bar on the back portion has what looks to be "IV" etched into the metal.
This buckle half measures 2.25" x 2".
