This antique carnet de bal or aide-memoire is from France and Art Nouveau in design. It's circa late 1800s to early 1910s. The folio is leather with a metal piece through the center interior to hold paper. There is a pocket on either side of the interior. The interior is lined with what looks to be moire. The metal closures are probably not silver since there is no hallmark. There is an area to hold a small writing instrument in the interior, and there is a small pencil within.
Dimensions closed are 4.25" x 3".
The carnet de bal was used to keep track of dance partners and the aide-memoire is basically a notebook in which to take notes.
*****Condition: The leather is in good condition with minimal wear although there are some scuffs. The closures work well. The pencil looks as if it were broken, and the lead is worn down. Please examine all photos carefully and do let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.
