This antique leather sewing casket with hand-sewn interior embellishments on the fabric portion that holds needle packets is late 19th, early 20th century. It measures approximately 6" x 1.75" at its widest. The craftsmanship is a hallmark of Shaker design. The five spools of thread are ingeniously attached to the threaded ribbons on both exterior sides so that all one has to do to sew is pull the end of thread and not remove the entire spool.
*****Condition: Please note that the leather exhibits heavy wear and discoloration. The last two photos show an area of the front of the casket (the scissors pocket) where the leather has a tear. The ribbon is frayed and worn, and a portion is missing where one end could have been tied with the other. The Toledo brand scissors have wear and pitting, and the thimble is misshapen. There are two packets of what appear to be unopened needles, sizes 7 and 8. The 9 pocket is empty. The spools have some unwound thread, which could be snipped or rolled back onto the spool, if one wishes to undertake this.
Please examine the photos carefully and do let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.
