This black sautoir is circa 1800s and from France. It measures 56" in length and has a dog clip by which to hang a chatelaine. This piece is in good condition although the beads do have some wear owing to their age. The elongated and circular beads are decoratively carved and held together with metal links. The elongated beads measure approximately ½" and the circular beads measure approximately ⅛".
At first, I thought this might be ebonite or Vulcanite, but given its wood grain appearance when examined closely, I am thinking it might be bog oak.
