Early 20th Century French, Barbotine Pitcher with Grape Motif from Faiencerie d'Art de la Sorgue

$145.00

This early, French, Barbotine pitcher has an F.F.A.S. mark and "Made in France" on the underside. The F.F.A.S mark is the abbreviation for the Faiencerie d'Art de la Sorgue. Barbotine or, alternatively, Majolica pieces were produced in the late 19th century into the early 20th century in France. Barbotine or Majolica refers to a technique that uses clay slip to embellish a piece. The grapes and leaves and the details on the barrel are done using this slip technique. The interior is glazed a deep brick red.

Dimensions of the pitcher are 8.25" at its tallest point, 2.5" across the mouth, 5.5" across the base, and 20" circumference at the widest point. No chips, cracks or crazing are present although the base does have some discoloration, areas of wear, and rough spots. Do examine the photos carefully and please let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.
