Cicada Vase, Made by Tess in Toulon, France

$45.00

*****Condition: The vase has a ¼" chip at the base. Please see photos eight, nine and ten. The chip is not visible when the vase is upright at a low level but if displayed higher up, the chip is visible. There are some rough spots on the underside, which I believe occurred before the piece was bisque-fired, but I can't be certain. Also, there are dark colored spots as seen in the last photo. I believe this occurred during the glazing process.

The vase was made by the ceramicist Tess in Toulon and is signed on the side as well as on the underside of the piece where there is also a number. It is circa 1970s and has the characteristic yellow and orange tones of this type of pottery with a painted pine bough and pinecone and a three-dimensional cicada (a symbol of the region of Provençe.)

The vase measures 2 ⅜" across the opening and 1 ⅞" across the base. It has a 7 6/8" circumference around the widest portion of the piece.
