The Croix de Lorraine, a symbol of a free France, was adopted during 1871-1918 and again during WWII. The Croix de Lorraine or Lorraine Cross has a much earlier history, though, as it originated in Hungary in the 12th century. It became known also as the Cross of Anjou in the 16th century. During WWII, it became a symbol of de Gaulle's Free French Forces in answer to the Nazi swastika.
The front is covered in blue enamel, and the metal is of unknown content. No hallmarks are visible. 1.5" in length, including the bale, and ⅞" width.
