I have five of these buttons, purchased from France, and they're being sold individually. The fronts are covered with black velvet and a letter is stitched with gold bullion along with a border in the same bullion. The backs appear to be celluloid as they have a slight characteristic odor when rubbed vigorously.
The buttons measure 1.25" across and are very lightweight. Celluloid buttons reached their popularity between the 1900s and 1920s and were used until the 1940s.
