Rare Petroliana, Esso (Standard Oil Company) Pocket Knife, Made in Thiers, France, Circa 1920s

Sorry, this item has sold.

This rare, petroliana pocket knife made in Thiers, France is an advertisement for Esso (Standard Oil Company). It bears the city of its origin on the blade as well as what I believe to be a Latin phrase- Veritasauzedi, which means, I believe, "I have dared to tell the truth."

The knife measures approximately 3" closed and 5 ¼" with open blade. The blade itself measures approximately 2 ¼".
