Mid-Century Modern "Fat Lava" Ashtray from Vallauris Ceramic Studio, France

$65.00

This small ashtray, circa 1960s, was produced by an artist of the Vallauris studio in France. I can't make out the name, but the SGDG designation is a French patent term, which went out of existence by 1968. The type of glaze is know as Fat Lava, a term that originated in West Germany in the 1960s-1970s. An interesting article on Fat Lava glaze technique: https://www.veniceclayartists.com/lava-glaze-eruption-at-mid-century/

Dimensions are approximately 4" x 2.5".

*****Condition: Please note there are areas of wear on the underside of the ashtray, as seen in the second photo. Also, in the last photo, there appears an area of missing glaze. I am unsure if this happened during the firing process or afterwards owing to the piece being knocked or hit on that spot.

Thank you for looking.
