This antique holy water font (bénitier) from France is of Our Lady of Brebières and consists of a meerschaum carving of Madonna and Christ Child behind glass; black painted wood; and a ceramic, glazed shell, which would hold the water. The carving is held in the back by three nails. There is a ring at the top of the font by which to hang it.
The piece measures 7" from the top of the wood portion to the lip of the shell and 3.5" across at its widest.
*****Condition: This is an older piece dating to the late 1800s. Please note the shell has small chips, most notably seen in photos five and six. Also, the wood has significant wear. Please examine the photos closely and do let me know if you need more as I'll be happy to oblige.
