French, Infant Protection Medal of Our Lady of Pontmain (Notre-Dame de Pontmain)
This vintage crib medal of Our Lady of Pontmain (Notre-Dame de Pontmain) is comprised of Galalith and metal, circa 1930s, and from France. There is a metal ring at the top through which a ribbon could be drawn, if preferred. The piece measures 79.5 mm x 53 mm.
Even today, crib medals are given to parents of newborns. They are believed to afford protection to the infant.
