Saint Louis (Louis IX) of France, Engraving after a Drawing by Da Vinci, 1873


This engraving, done in the style of Da Vinci's portrait of Louis IX (Saint Louis) that hangs in The Hermitage in Saint Petersburg, Russia, is from 1873. The entire sheet measures approximately 10.5" x 7.5". The actual engraving measures 9 ⅛" x 6 ½".

King Louis IX, a controversial figure, was king of France from 1226-1270. He was crowned in Reims at the age of 12 after his father's (Louis XIII) death. Here is an interesting article on Louis IX:
