Quimper Faience Oyster Plate, from France

This faience, Quimper oyster plate with places for six oysters on the half shell is from France and measures 9.5" across. There are no chips, cracks or crazing. Quimper is a town in the Brittany region of France.

*****Condition: There are a few spots of glaze on the front that occurred during the glazing process so they are fired in-- a hallmark of each piece being handmade and hand-painted. Please examine the photos carefully using the zoom function, and do let me know if you require more as I'll be happy to oblige.

Although the Henriot factory went out of business in 1968, pieces continued to be produced for many years beyond 1968. A wonderfully informative site, https://oldquimper.com/factory-marks.html, writes: Those working with HB designs marked their pieces "HB Quimper" with the appropriate "f" and "d" numbers. This practice continued throughout the time that the "blended company" was in business, i.e. from 1968 to 1983.

F indicates the form number and D indicates the decoration number. The initials here are that of the artist's.

Since pottery marked with form and decoration numbers was produced between 1968 and 1983, I am dating this piece conservatively as being circa 1980s but it could be older.

Thank you for looking.
