WWI Red Cross Pin from France

Sorry, this item has sold.

This WWI Red Cross pin is from France and was worn by male nurses during the Great War.

Interestingly enough, male nurses were known as orderlies during this era and were paid about half of what their female counterparts were paid! (Thank you to https://www.nursingtimes.net/news/research-and-innovation/focus-a-brief-history-of-men-in-nursing-06-03-2019/)

The pin measures ½" and is enamel and metal.

*****Condition: There is enamel loss and discoloration to the face of the pin. The reverse has marked tarnishing. Also, because of the age of the pin as well as the possible soldering of the fastener to the reverse, care must be taken when manipulating the closure. I suggest this pin be used for display purposes only to prevent damage.

Thank you for looking.
