This WW1 brass, German artillery shell is from 1918. It was manufactured by Patronenfabrik of Karlsruhe. Most trench art was made during WWI by soldiers passing the time in between battles. It is truly remarkable that something so beautiful came out of something so awful-- a testament to the human spirit. There are three leaves and three flowers as well as stippling and other designs.
The piece measures 5" around and has a 2 ¾" opening. The height is 3 ¾".
