Mandoline Folding Corset Lace or Button Hook, Circa 1800s, from France

This antique, French folding hook was used for shoe buttons or corset laces. It is circa 19th century and of an unknown silver-colored metal. On one side, It has an intricate design and the word "depose," meaning the design has been patented. On the other side, it has the same design and the brand name "Mandoline." The handle's shape is similar to the shape of the instrument by the same name (mandolin in English). The piece measures 3 ⅞" lengthwise open and 2 ½" lengthwise closed. Opens and closes without issue.

*****Condition: The metal has heavy wear in the form of rust, discoloration, and scratching. Please examine the photos carefully and do let me know if you need more as I will be happy to oblige.
