French, Silver (Boar's Head Mark) Rattle of Child with Doll and "Maternité" for Display or for Doll or Bear

Sorry, this item has sold.

This silver rattle with boar's head mark is at least 800 silver. It is circa early 1900s-1930s and depicts a child holding a doll with "maternité" (French for maternity.) on both sides. It is attached to a celluloid ring, which measures 1 ¾" across. Dimensions of the rattle are 1.5" x 1.5" at its widest.

*****Condition:

The celluloid ring has scratches and wear, particularly as seen in the sixth photo where a piece of the celluloid is missing.

The bale by which the rattle is attached to the ring is open, as seen in the seventh photo.

The silver has some wear in the form of scratches and some discoloration.

The rattle appears depressed in the center. I cannot tell if this is the way the rattle was designed or if this happened owing to use. One can see this most clearly when observing the rattle's edges in photos nine and ten.

The edges of the rattle, as shown in photos nine and ten, have wear, particularly as seen in photo ten where a dent is visible.

There is no noisemaker inside the rattle.

Please examine the photos carefully and do let me know if you would like more as I will be happy to oblige.

Thank you for looking.
