This antique, circa 1800s French sautoir necklace/watch chain is comprised of black beads and has a working dog clip. The cord on which the beads are strung appears to be black braid.
I had a necklace that sold that was very similar to this one, and the beads were jet. These beads, however, do not appear to be jet, and I cannot be certain of their composition so I won't even venture a guess.
The necklace appears to be in good, sturdy condition although it is impossible to check every area of braid since the beads are strung very close together.
The necklace measures 52" total (26" each side).
