Antique, French Pyrogène (Match Strike) of Goose with Tower

Sorry, this item has sold.

This antique French pyrogène (match strike) features a tower and a goose. It is of a lead alloy/antimony and circa late 1800s. These were commonly seen in French bistros or bars in the late 19th century, early 20th century.

The pyrogène measures 1.5" in height and 2.25" across the base, including the bottom of the tower and goose in the measurements.

The tower holds the matches, and the textured surface shown in the seventh photo is the area in which one would strike a match.
